The Importance of a Strong Communication Strategy

Mastering In-house Executive Search

Effective communication is the cornerstone of successful executive search. We have found that implementing a structured communication plan is crucial for keeping all stakeholders informed and aligned throughout the recruitment process.

We recommend a Talent Acquisition Service Level Agreement that stipulates weekly updates every Friday for each open requisition. This practice ensures consistent communication with hiring managers, their superiors, HR Business Partners, and Talent Acquisition Managers.

When crafting your communication strategy, consider the following:

  • For director-level positions and above, weekly calls may be more appropriate.

  • For other positions, detailed email updates may suffice.

Regardless of the method, your updates should include:

  1. Pending action items for both hiring managers and Talent Acquisition Consultants

  2. A recap of the open position/s

  3. A detailed list of active candidates, including screening status, interview progress, and final candidates

  4. Current challenges in the search process

Remember, perception is reality in executive search. Your communication frequency and quality directly shape how hiring managers view your efforts and value. Even if you're working diligently behind the scenes, without regular, high-quality updates, hiring managers may perceive a lack of progress.

By maintaining consistent, informative communication, you build trust, demonstrate your proactive approach, and position yourself as an indispensable partner in the executive search process.
